In 1905 Gennaro Fabbri began producing his first liqueurs and cordials in Bologna in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. Little did he realize that his small operation housed in an old drug store would become one of Italy’s premier distilleries. It was during this time that their most celebrated product was born: Amarena (sour black cherries in syrup), developed from a recipe by Fabbri’s wife. To thank her for her creation, Gennaro commissioned a ceramic artist to design a special container for the cherries. The jar, with its unmistakable blue and white designs was an immediate hit and found its way to counters throughout Italy making Fabbri a brand that is recognized throughout the world. Wild Italian Sour Black Cherries in Syrup.
